Ambient Assited Living-Continua Forum

Belfast N. Ireland
AAL-Continua Forum
Europa Hotel, Belfast
14 June 2010, 14:30 – 16:45
Please click here to view the agenda.
Europe is ageing, which presents challenges and opportunities. New tools and services are being developed to support older people. However, health and welfare systems are under pressure. More than ever, people look to ICT solutions to maintain quality of life, enable independent living, and ensure quality and safety of care, while improving efficiencies and saving costs. Effective deployment is however hindered by regulatory uncertainties, misaligned incentives, lack of trust among stakeholders and other factors.
Two important stakeholder groups are industry and government, and this Forum is bringing them together. The AAL Joint Programme, founded in 2008, is an initiative of 23 Partner Countries and the European Commission to support research and development to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of ICT. The Continua Health Alliance is a non-profit, open, international industry coalition of more than 200 member companies which collaborate to develop a system of interoperable personal health solutions focusing on health and wellness, disease management, and independent aging.
The AAL-Continua Forum on 14 June 2010 in Belfast will begin and foster a dialogue of both groups and address one of the main challenges of the market: research and innovation are being funded, but few solutions reach the market, and fewer still become successful. What are the barriers to market entry, growth and success, and how can they be removed? How can governments and industry work better together to address the common challenges?
Format: Selected experts will set the stage for a lively debate among European and international industry and government representatives. The Forum will be open to the public, and is directed at all stakeholders interested in market issues related to ICT-based solutions for the elderly. Click here for a preliminary agenda.
Attendance is free but the organisers request you register by clicking here:
Place/Time: The event will take place in the Europa Hotel, Belfast, on Monday, 14 June 2010, the first day of the ECH Campus Connected Health Week, from 14:30 to 16:45. All attendees are invited to attend the opening of the opening reception at 17:30 on the exhibition floor.
Offer: The ECH Campus Leadership Summit on 15/16 June 2010 is an international gathering of key practitioners, thought and industry leaders from the field of Connected Health. Forum attendees can register at the early booking rate: use code "book6194" when registering at www.echcampus.com.
